In Solitude
A downloadable game for Windows
This project was for my Game Design I class at Wichita State University for the Fall semester 2023. The goal was to make an outdoor level. I decided to create a level set in Winter and the character has to survive.
When creating this project my personal goal was to create something out of the normal from the rest of the class, while also having meaning behind it. I decided to do a Winter setting because it allowed me to experiment with new landscapes and idea I wasn't able to do before.

Here is a list of updates I did, more details are in Devlog section of game-
Update 1-
Re-sculpted landscape to make it walkable and fixed scaling issues
Changed landscape materials to match foliage and setting better
Added in water for lakes and ponds
Update 2-
First round of post processing- changed overall mood to snow storm etc.
Inserted cave area near lake for shelter spot in gameplay
Began experimenting with Niagara particles and implemented snow falling
Update 3-
Second round of post processing- added night vision for cave
Redid foliage and added new assets
Update 4-
Added in first round of sound effects-
Created snow foot step audio and added it to animation so it plays when character walks, runs, and jumps
Created sound cue for wind blowing
Added temporary background music- credits to The Long Dark soundtrack
Update 5-
Implemented health system-
health drains 20 hp every 10 seconds giving player approximately 50 seconds to find shelter
(this is an exaggerated level for small scale testing, a larger game will allocate more time for the player to explore and find resources)
Update 6-
Created visual effect for taking damage
Adding in sound effect for taking damage
Update 7-
Added in breathing cycles for running , walking, and idle
Edited snow particles velocity and direction to better simulate snow storm
Update 8-
Fixed damage system code to stop damaging player when they reach shelter
Implemented regeneration in shelter
Update 9-
Implemented death UI to respawn the player to try again
Fixed material instancing issues
